The 2015 Nizza Riserva della Famiglia has changed denomination from Barbera d'Asti Superiore to Nizza. This is a plump and thickly extracted expression that shows the dark, generous fruit and exuberance of this hot vintage. The wine opens to an impenetrable appearance, and you feel that heaviness on all the senses. The bouquet shows layers of black fruit, prune and dried plum. The key element here is the natural acidity of the grape that plays counterpoint to the wine's hefty textural richness. This wine is almost too much of a good thing.
