San Michele Appiano’s 2018 Alto Adige Sauvignon The Wine Collection is a beautifully shiny and fragrant white wine packaged, unfortunately, in a very heavy glass bottle. (I tasted my sample from a shiner bottle with an unfinished front label.) This is a complex and elaborate Sauvignon Blanc, which was given three days of skin contact before aging for a year in oak and then 18 months in steel. It offers an off-gold color and a rich, full-bodied texture. The bouquet is loud and proud with plenty of candied orange peel, ripe mango and fragrant honeysuckle. To the palate, the wine is thickly textured and soft. It's a true beauty.
