The 2015 Barbera d'Alba Superiore feels immediately too ripe and the wine's inner balance is off center as a result. The nose delivers an intense burst of dark fruit with candied cherry and blackberry confit. You also get dusty mineral notes with talc power or crushed oyster shell. It does find better focus after that initial and very powerful first impression. Within a few moments, that intensity flattens out and becomes more approachable. The are hints of sour fruit on the close.
