Pira's 2013 Barolo Margheria is going to need time to shed some of its formidable tannins. Searing in its intensity, the 2013 packs a real punch from the very first taste. Sweet tobacco, crushed flowers, mint and underbrush notes develop in the glass, adding aromatic nuance and complexity. Readers have to be patient, but I imagine the Margheria will always be a brute, even with time in bottle.
